Thriving Women Cihuahmeh Project

The Thriving Women’s Initiative Project, was born from the concept of indigenous women’s leadership working on healing themselves through both traditional and mainstream forms of healing, from all forms of violence. As care takers of the children, families, and leaders in our communities, this project became necessary in order to be able to provide the leadership our future generations need and deserve. Healing is imperative when working towards various goals within the organizational and ceremonial way of life. The women in the Thriving Women’s Cihuatl Tlahtokan Project have worked collectively to provide a healing space for women, mothers and daughters of our community, in an organic process, with the intention of educating the children on how to avoid becoming victims, and how to help those who have been victimized. The Thriving Women have taken the initiative to begin the healing process through various forms of traditional therapy, including talking circles, sweat lodge (Temezcalli) ceremonies, and other forms of traditional artistic outlets such as beading, sewing, and gardening our traditional foods.
